New amazon.com functions

I just added a beta version of what amazon.com calls “Context Links”. They supposed to automatically hyper link relevant words and phrases and link them to that product. If I happen to mention Harry Potter, the new book or any related material to Harry Potter should be highlighted/linked to amazon.com web site and you can purchase them at your convenience.

Try to see if you can purchase books, CDs, lawn mower, or your favorite 007 Casino Royale DVD. Enjoy.

in threes

You know there is a saying about things happen in threes –well two of them have happened to me so far this week. Earlier this week my backup drive gave up on me. It just decided that it will not power up again. After many hours of tireless work, nothing came out of it and the drive is still not working.

I have had everything saved in it dating back to 2000 in hopes of that backup drives are safe and reliable. Shouldn’t they be more reliable and more resilient than the regular hard drives? What is the point of a 320G hard drive if it gives up after a year? Can you imaging the amount of data lost? I can.

I have lost over 50G of data stored on this 320G drive –and now I do not have the money to go and restore it. I can recall someone restored their hard drive of 200M and it cost around $2000. Can you guess the bill for 50G?

The second thing happened was my car. I was on my way home from a game the other night and my cars belts went out on me. I was not close to home and it was not during the day. I was driving home around 1030pm at night when I made a right turn and the car steering went dead. I had to pull up to a parking lot and stop the car.

At first I thought it was the power steering fluid. When I opened the hood and looked at the belt, it was not running but the engine was on. I parked it and got a ride home. The next day I went back and took it to a shop. After examining the damages it was obvious that the belts and everything that goes with it needed to be replaced. The bill: $598 to be exact.

I guess I am still waiting for the third thing to happen and make the circle complete. I am not sure what that will be, but it is coming.

riding sober

Drunk and passed out in an alley
Grumpy old men couldn’t save me
I was riding my motor bike
Mounted on top of a truck
Numbed my pain
I was feeling sober

End with a Sea

A limping horse came from the horizon
Like an old owl appearing from the dark
A wounded man leaned over
Smiled and dropped on the floor
Fresh blood and torn clothes
He was a knight of the round table
Like a river he ended in the sea

The alarm buzzed exactly at 730am. As it does everyday. But this time I was not expecting to get up that early. I like to sleep in on the weekends -the clock is not set to go off on Saturdays.

I wanted to push the snooze button and go back to sleep, but the grinding noise coming from outside attracted my half-attended sleepy hears. I pushed myself off the be and followed the noise like Sylvester does the Tweedy. It was coming from outside of the house. I opened the front door and noticed my dad was cutting down some tree branches and brushes that were dried up and dead during the winter.

“come and take these to the dumpster.” he said pointing to the pile of broken brushed on the ground. Without answering I walked back inside the house and followed my daily routine of going to the restroom to wash up -except the grinding noise part. I slept in my shoes and walked back outside to follow the orders given by my dad. I walked around the yard and gathered all the torn down woods, branches and brushed into a big pile. The electric saw was still chopping away tree branches. I took as much of the trash as i could wrap my hands around to and took them to the trash can located behind our house.

“We need to buy some trees to plant here,” I heard my dad say as I walked around the corner, “we have plenty of space.” He pointed out to an empty spot on the ground. That meant I had to go back in the house and find the shovel and some other digging tools to prepare the ground for a tree or two. I walked back inside and poured myself a glass of orange juice on my way to the garage. I have always opened the fridge door whenever I pass it.
