So a buddy and I are chillin’, drinking and watching the BOS v CLE game. Baseball is always fun -whether you are in the game or watching it on TV with friends (alcohol a must).
We were watching the pitcher throwing fast balls and the corner of the screen would lit-up with how fast he just shot that ball. Yes, shot that ball -I saw 99 mph. That is speed my brothers. So we started talking about how fast these guys can shoot the ball and how much they strive to keep on with the stat and of course to break and make their own records.
In the process, we came up with a stat that the MLB is lacking and/or has not started adding to the pitchers’ record books: it is the RPM of the ball. MLB has records of how fast the pitchers have been shooting the ball for years and years, but no one has ever recorded the RPM of each pitch. I am sure we have the technology to do it.
Notice to MLB: Start recording the pitchers’ RPMs. It is a no-brainer and it will add extra competitiveness to the game as the pitchers will strive to making and breaking each-others records in many years to come.
